Bespoke 10-Day Amalfi Coast Itinerary
A sample private itinerary across Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, with experiences loved by adults and kids alike.
|
DAY 1 | ARRIVAL IN SORRENTO
Your private driver meets you at Naples airport or train station and takes you along the coast to Sorrento. Settle in, stroll through Piazza Tasso and the old town lanes, and enjoy your first dinner overlooking the Bay of Naples. DAY 2 | LEMON GARDENS, TASTING & PICNIC (FAMILY FAVORITE) Visit a family-run lemon garden: walk under the pergolas, learn how the famous Sorrento lemons are grown, and enjoy a tasting of fresh lemons, homemade limoncello and local products. Or stay for a picnic in the shade of the lemon trees, a favourite with families. |
|
DAY 3 | POMPEII & LUNCH AT THE FOOT OF VESUVIUS
Explore the Pompeii Archaeological Park with a private licensed guide who brings the ancient city to life: its streets, homes, frescoes and the Forum, with Vesuvius rising behind. Then drive up to a family winery on the slopes of the volcano for a relaxed lunch and a tasting of Lacryma Christi and other wines grown in the volcanic soil. Included: private licensed guide, Pompeii entry, private driver, lunch and wine tasting at a family winery. Duration: about 7 hours. DAY 4 | PRIVATE BOAT EXCURSION TO CAPRI Board your private boat and cruise along the coast to Capri. Sail through the arch of the Faraglioni, stop at the grottoes and swim in crystal-clear coves. On land, wander the Piazzetta, walk to the Gardens of Augustus above Via Krupp, or take the chairlift up Monte Solaro in Anacapri. Lunch is at a terrace restaurant with a view of the Faraglioni. |
|
DAY 5 | COOKING CLASS (FAMILY FAVORITE)
Spend a morning in the kitchen learning to make fresh pasta, gnocchi alla sorrentina and a classic dessert with a local cook. It's one of the experiences our guests love most, adults and children alike: kids love rolling and shaping their own pasta! The class ends the best way possible, sitting down together to eat what you've made, with local wine for the adults. Good to know: the class is hands-on and relaxed, and the menu can be adapted for children, vegetarians and food allergies. Let us know about any dietary needs in advance. Depending on availability, we can also arrange a pizza or pasta masterclass with a local chef. Included: private cooking class, lunch with the dishes you prepare, local wine and private transfers. Duration: about 4 hours. DAY 6 | POSITANO Move to Positano, the most photographed village on the coast. Settle into your hotel, wander down the lanes to the beach and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and enjoy your first evening with the town lit up above the sea. |
|
DAY 7 | POSITANO OR THE PATH OF THE GODS
Enjoy a free day in Positano: the beach, the boutiques along its narrow lanes and a sunset dinner with the whole town glowing below you. For active travellers, we arrange a guided walk on the Path of the Gods, high above the sea. DAY 8 | AMALFI & RAVELLO Your private driver takes you along the famous coastal road to Amalfi, with its cathedral and centuries-old paper-making tradition. Then continue up to Ravello, where the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone's Terrace of Infinity give you one of the most breathtaking views in Italy. |
|
DAY 9 | BOAT EXCURSION TO ISCHIA & PROCIDA
For a different side of the bay, take a boat to Ischia, known for its thermal gardens and natural hot springs, and to Procida, a tiny island of pastel-coloured fishermen's houses and quiet harbours, far from the crowds. DAY 10 | DEPARTURE Your private driver takes you to Naples airport or the train station, or you can extend your stay with Naples, Rome or another Italian region. Prefer classic sightseeing? We also arrange classic tours of Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, with private guides and drivers, at the pace that suits you. |

How Many Days Do You Need on the Amalfi Coast?
|
We recommend at least 5 to 7 days to enjoy Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and a boat day to Capri without rushing.
With 10 days, you can add Pompeii, a cooking class and the islands of Ischia and Procida, at a relaxed pace that works for couples and families alike. Shorter stays are possible, and we'll help you prioritise what matters most to you. |
Is It Better to Stay in Sorrento or Positano?
|
Sorrento is lively, well connected and a practical base for Pompeii, Capri and Naples, with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
Positano is quieter at night, romantic and right on the coast, but more expensive and full of steps. Many of our guests split their stay between the two, as in our sample itinerary: a few nights in Sorrento for Pompeii and Capri, then a few nights in Positano for Amalfi and Ravello. |
How Do You Get from Naples to the Amalfi Coast?
|
The easiest and most comfortable way is a private transfer from Naples airport or train station: about 1 hour to Sorrento and 1.5 hours to Positano.
In season, ferries also connect Naples, Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Amalfi, but timetables change with the season and the weather, and luggage can be a challenge. We arrange the right combination of private drivers, boats and ferries for your itinerary, so you arrive relaxed and never have to worry about connections. |
Is the Amalfi Coast Good for Families with Kids?
|
Absolutely, as long as the trip is planned at the right pace.
Kids love the boat days and swimming stops, cooking classes where they make their own pasta, and lemon garden visits with tastings and picnics under the lemon trees. Pompeii fascinates children of all ages with a guide who knows how to tell its story, and Sorrento is an easy, flat base for evening walks and gelato. For families, we plan shorter travel days, family-friendly hotels and flexible schedules, so the trip works for every age. |
Should You Visit Capri, or Ischia and Procida?
|
Capri is the most famous island in the bay, with the Faraglioni, the grottoes, the Gardens of Augustus and its glamorous Piazzetta.
Ischia is larger and known for its thermal gardens and natural hot springs, while Procida is small, colourful and peaceful, far from the crowds. With a private boat, you don't have to choose: enjoy Capri one day and Ischia and Procida another, as in our sample itinerary. |
What Is the Best Time to Visit the Amalfi Coast?
|
The best times to visit the Amalfi Coast are May, June and September.
These months bring warm weather and a sea warm enough for swimming, with fewer crowds than July and August. July and August are hot, lively and busy, perfect for boat days to Capri, Ischia and Procida if you book early. April and October are lovely for walking, Pompeii and sightseeing, with milder weather and quieter villages. From November to March many hotels, restaurants and boat services close. Whatever the season, we recommend booking 6 to 12 months ahead for the best hotels, boats and experiences. |
Can You Drive the Amalfi Coast Yourself?
|
You can, but we don't recommend it.
The coastal road is narrow and winding, parking is scarce and expensive, and traffic in summer can be intense. Local buses are often full, and ferries change with the season and the weather. That is why we organize your days on the coast with a private driver or a private boat. You get door-to-door service, drop-offs right in the center of each village, and you can enjoy the views instead of watching the road. |
If you prefer to drive, we recommend a rental car only for the parts of your trip away from the coast, returning it before you reach Sorrento or Positano.
In our experience, the most relaxing way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast is to leave transport to local professionals. This lets you make the most of your time and fully enjoy every day of your trip.

How Much Time Do You Need for Pompeii?
|
Plan about 2.5 to 3 hours with a private guide to see the highlights of the Pompeii Archaeological Park without getting tired: the Forum, the streets and houses, the frescoes and the theatres.
Combined with lunch and a wine tasting at a family winery on the slopes of Vesuvius, it makes a perfect full day. A useful tip: visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon in summer, as there is little shade on the site. We book your entry and guide in advance. |
